More cherry pie?!

Do you know what that means?! It means I have totally missed my one year Blogiversary! I actually made my first post in May of last year, but Cherries Jubilee was one of my favorites and I can't believe the time has gone by so quickly!

Our cherry tree was nothing like last year. The weather and birds really took their tole. We didn't pick any. But that's ok, frankly I'm still cherried out! We had some in the freezer and I made two pies to take to our friend's house for their annual 4th of July party.

I never like how the crust edge turns out when I use my fingers/thumb/or a spoon. I was looking at my various flatware and decided to use the handles to make impressions. Yes, Pillsbury makes lovely pie crusts...

This crust turned out "ok", but you couldn't see the floral motif from the handle I used.

But I really liked how this one turned out. The rose impression is very tiny, but cute!

...if you squint you can see it!

Our friend's party was on the 3rd this year, so we had a quiet day to ourselves on Independence Day. That night, Kevin and I each had a piece of pie and he popped some pink champaign that had been in the fridge forever. Happy Birthday America!

And Happy 1st Blogiversary to me! I suppose I'll have to come up with a give away, eh?

Cherries Jubilee!

Life is just a bowl of cherries - Lisa Loeb

We had a wonderful cherry harvest this year. The tree started to put on it's show in May. These are tart little cherries, just right for pies!

Click to enlarge for full effect!
So pretty when they're yellow and begin to *blush*

Ooo, click me, click me!!

First day of picking! Here's Kevin, his sister Joyce, and Nova. Actually, I think Kevin had already picked some before this, but I'm not counting it as there is no evidence, lol! These were barely ripe but we had to stay on top of them. The birds certainly were!

I love this bowl. I think I got it at an auction.

I kept thinking of Bubba Gump Shrimp... making Cherry pie, cherry crisp, cherry cobbler, cherry smoothies, and even dried cherries........

Before we new it, it was pickin' time again. Oh, seeding cherries is the PITS!! I never wanted to see another cherry again at this point.

But they sure were perty and a wonderful vintage RED. Click me too!! That's Kevin and my mom, picking away...

Nothin' like retro red cherries! I should dress for the occasion! A favorite vintage inspired dress from Charlotte Russe. $11.00!

I found the sweater at Charlotte's too, for $3~

Ok, ok... let's EAT!

How 'bout some cherry pie?

Now I must admit, these two pie pics were two separate pies made on different days!

Like to try some dried cherries? These remind me of Craisens. They're great in salads. Some were dried plain, and some were soaked in Tuaca first~ Those were good for snacking!

Or perhaps I could interest you in some cherry crisp? My pie and crisp recipes are from the good ol' Better Homes and Gardens cookbook with the red gingham cover. Sometimes I make the crust, sometimes I buy them.

Click to see the little dish, it's a fave of mine. I love it because of the black and white striped "ribbon"

Cherry smoothie anyone? I didn't get a photo of ours, but this one sure is cute so it will suffice!

Kevin's *CORE* smoothie was a mixture of the following... sorry folks, we don't measure 'round here~

Frozen bananas,
frozen cherries,
soy milk,
splenda,
flax seed,
and plain lowfat yogurt

Life is a just bowl of cherries, hope you're making the most of it!
