Pink Saturday, Espisode Sixteen~ Pink vintage dresses on parade~

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday,
hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.
Please visit her to see many other participants showing off their pink eye CANDY!
Today I thought I'd share some of my pink vintage dresses.
Since we're building a storage area in my craftroom, (no~ still not finished, weekends only and we've been doing other things instead), I wanted to have an area to hang some vintage things for show. Most of them are from the 30's or 40's, some 50's.
These first two are aprons. However, they meet all way in the back and I've been wanting to adjust the closures so that I can wear them for blouses. The pink and green one has such a cute rose motif.
You may click the photos to enlarge if you wish, just remember to hit the back button to return.
The dress on the left was a gift from a fellow collector. The one on the right is one of my faves with great PINK buttons! It needs a few repairs, I've worn it quite a bit.

Here's a closeup of the darling embroidered design on the one.

I may have featured this dress below on the left before. It is one of my all time favorite vintage dresses. I found it "new with tags". The dress on the right I got on my birthday, yet I haven't had a chance to wear it yet. Just haven't felt like styling my hair properly, etc. lately. I think as soon as I color my hair red again, I'll have my vintage "mojo" back, lol! I bought the dress at the Vintage Haberdashery in St. Louis.

I adore the coral pink shade of the 30's crepe dress on the left. And the texture of the linen dress on the right.

Ok, you caught me. The dress below isn't vintage. It's a $3 Walmart clearance cheapie. But it's one of my lazy day favorites!
I bought this coat, (probably circa 80's or 90's) on ebay to embellish into Rose's pink coat from Titanic. I've changed out the buttons but that's as far as I've gotten!
This plum colored dress is so cool because it's cotton, yet it's iridescent. Changes from plum to green. Just awesome.
Next to it is one of my oldest dresses, to too small for me... it's a teen or pre-teen's garment from about 1912. Just darling. Perhaps I'll do a Pink Saturday post on that one alone some time!
Ah... I HATE to alter vintage via cutting it up, unless it's too far gone with stains or rot. But this vintage 60's or 70's dress on the left is just TOO scrumptious to let go. I plan to cut part of the length off, and add it to the bust and waist so I can wear it. Incredibly selfish me thinks, but I just HAVE to do it.
I beleive the dress next to it is actually a dressing gown, made of nylon. It has some repairs to be made too... and I'm thinking of hemming it. I just love the dogwood pattern on it!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing these pink frocks!
I have recently shared some new pink in my life. In the previous post, the background on the table is actually a vintage full size bedspread that I bought for only $8!! I'm using it as a tablecloth for now.
And a few more posts back I shared a baby scale from the 50's. Wonderful, wonderful retro pink. WOOT!
Thank you everyone for your well wishes on my new ETSY shop!
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

A heartBREAKING Pink Saturday, episode fifteen~

Welcome to Pink Saturday! Please visit Beverly at
How Sweet the Sound for more pink eye candy!
You may remember my Pink Saturday post #2, the dainty pink bossom china?
HPIM0058
I got them on eBay in January of '07. My brother and SIL had gotten me a gift certificate and naturally it was burning a hole in my pocket! I came across the following auction and my heart skipped a beat:
Antique China Set Delicate Pink Floral Pattern
The auction description:
"My grandmother had these pieces that match her Haviland tea sets and platter (see other auction). These pieces have no manufacturer marks on the bottom, so I do not know who made them. They actually belonged to her grandmother so are very old.
The pieces are very lovely, almost transparent. The design is a delicate pink floral with green vines and leaves. Along the rim there is a very light, raised additional design; white raised frieze. The pieces show very little wear, *one tea cup does have a very, very small chip*. However, these peices of china are in good shape and there are no other cracks or chips. The serving pieces have most of the gold gilt intact.
In the pictures, there are sponge liners between the plates, that is the darker beige you see between them.
Shipping will depend upon location but I will have this packed carefully by the local shipping service. I also suggest insurance."
Sounded great, right?? She did have a low feedback number, but hey... everyone has to start somewhere right?? And it was 100% positive.
I covered all my bases and emailed for a shipping estimate.
Q: Hi there! How much for shipping and insurance to zip -----? Also, how will the set be packaged? Thanks!
A: The shipping and insurance should be around $60 to your zip. I plan to take it to a pack and ship store and have them package it properly. I am assuming they will use bubble wrap and peanuts to be sure it will not break. I am not sure how much they will charge for this service, but I will add that cost on to the shipping fee. I esimated the insurance at $100, but can up that if you would like. Enjoy Bidding!
Hmmm. Sounded OK, RIGHT?!!!
The asking bid was $50. That is how much my gift certificate was for, woohoo! I could handle the shipping.
Oh, did I mention this was a set of china for TWELVE??
TWELVE!!!
I was the only bidder, how exciting! Before paying, I emailed the seller and told her I wanted a copy of the reciept for the packaging, etc.
I waited impatiently for my beautiful set to arrive. Finally I heard the drop at the door. When I picked up the first box, my heart sank.
You could hear clanking china.... and I just knew it was bad.
Now mind you, I expected to have a broken plate here, a teacup handle busted there.... or a crack or two. But nothing prepared me for what you are about to see.
Please~ grab a tissue and perhaps the hand of someone you love and watch the following slideshow. Be sure to enlarge it by clicking in the botton righthand corner.

Ahhh... remember those "sponge liners" the seller talked about in her description? She failed to mention that they were DRY ROTTED. Not that a perfectly spongey 1/8 inch liner would've protected anything fragile what-so-ever from the UPS man!
Was this woman insane?!?!
No bubble wrap... Oh, I take that back. The large platter and small platter were spooned together and wrapped in one sheet of it. You saw how that turned out.
The bottom of each stack of plates was on the bottom of the boxes. There was china dust in the bottom of those zipped *ahem* china protectors. Each stack knocked against each other again and again within the mere handfull of peanuts inside. Oh, the agony.
So I email her and tell her I have broken china. I was trying to be as nice as I could, I was so afraid I would not get reimbursed.
To my surprise she reimbursed my money before I even sent her pictures of the damage. (She's something, huh?!)
She appoligized and wanted to call me to say whe was sorry. Oy, I did NOT want to talk to this woman. Seriously, how stupid could someone be?
I told her that each and every peice should have been bubble wrapped separately. Then she told me that the platter was bubble wrapped.
She was so totally clueless, what could I possibly say?!
Finally all I could muster was "I think we've both learned a lesson here."
It's been over two years and I'm still sick about it. I'm sick that she would even SELL precious family china in the first place. (If she was telling the truth). I didn't save the original photos from the auction, or if I did I cannot find them. But they were all there... perfect and in tact.
As I went though each dish I just prayed for a service for four. I barely got it.
Frankly I'm surprised any of it made it at all... especially the more delicate pieces such as the gravy boat and dishes with lids.
I left her positive feedback; how could I not? I wrote, "Gracious seller remedied issues with damaged goods received. Thank you!"
In the end I guess I made out like a bandit. I'm sure Penny of Lavender Hill Studio would've been rather happy to get a box like that, LOL!
I have saved the peices and do plan to do a mosaic of some sort.... just waiting for the right project to come along.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
Thanks for "listening".....
OH! By the way... inside the box was a reciept from Walmart for bubble wrap and peanuts, totaling about $5.00.

Special Secret Santa gifts 2007~

I'm glad everyone enjoyed my gifts from Becca as much as I did! Be sure to check her blog, as she got much better shots than I did!

Now I'll share my gifts from my 2007 Secret Santa, Joy of The Wipple Company Store. She really spoiled me good too! Pay her store a visit and watch the renovation.

I had helpers that year as well. Melly cat was the curious one that time, while lazy Katie snoozed on the chair. Nova was 2, and looked so cute in his cowboy jammies, which he of course then added the boots and hat.

Since I have SO much blogland catching up to do, I'm going to cheat and share a slideshow since it's less time consuming.

I recieved so many wonderful things. A cute Secret Santa book, gifts for Nova, a pretty teal teacup and saucer (with some wonderful tea!), Gone With the Wind sheet music which I actually did NOT have!! That beautiful lipstick holder that you saw in this Marie Antoinette inspired
Pink Saturday post, a handbag hook, gorgeous bookmarks, an awesome antqiue book, cowboy ornies for my western themed tree and vignette, an adorable pink fur capelet, and included was some really cool victorian/gwtw looking wrapping paper.
I felt quite pampered! Thanks again Joy!! I enjoyed looking back through these photos, just like I was unwrapping them all again!

Remember to click the four little arrows box in the lower right hand corner of the slideshow after hitting play to see it BIG!

Tales of a shoe hoarder~ episode seven, and PINK SATURDAY episode twelve!

Happy Pink Saturday! Today I'm sharing a pair of 40's inspired pink faux suede pumps. They are made by Wild Diva. I bought them on eBay, I think they were around $12.99. I like to wear them with my favorite vintage late 30's to 40's dress.

Look past my incredibly goofy mug to see the scrumptious pleated organdy trim; edged in blue! I adore this floral fabric. I also like that this dress zips up the front.

This dress was old store stock, with the original price tag attached. $2.99! I think I paid close to that as well, I was VERY lucky. I still can't believe I won this dress for such a low bid. But that was years ago, vintage attire has really shot up on the bay lately!

I've worn this quite a bit, but most recently to a WONDERFUL occasion that is way overdue on my blog broadcast!

I wore it to meet the lovely Becca of Bluebirds and Roses! And what color did she wear do you think? PINK, of course! I have been internet friends with Becca for about 6 years now, and it was so awesome to finally get to meet her and her son Brad. Be sure to check out her beautiful blog, much PINK to feast on there too. You will see a great clip of Brad playing in his band. Such talented young men! And Becca is just as wonderful as you'd expect her to be!

She has recently started a Christmas blog as well, and you're sure to enjoy it.

Here is a photo of Brad and I. Doesn't he look suave in his pin striped suit?

He and little Nova got along swell.

We ate at The Old Spaghetti Factory in St. Louis. The atmoshpere is great there. Lots of antiques and old light fixtures. HPIM3473

For Brad, the atmoshere was exceptionally great that night; as a girl's sports team was dining next to us. He and Kevin joked about that quite a bit!

Another event I've worn this ensemble to was A Walk Back In Time last September. A few posts back I told about wearing Scarlett's blue portrait dress another year. They hold WWII, old west, Civil War, and Revolutionary War reenactments. My favorite is the shoot out at the OK Corral.
Here is a photo taken during one of the WWII episodes~

And yours truly in front of the tanks!

I leave you with one more photo, SO sweet! This was taken last weekend. We went out for a drive to look at the fall scenery~ and stopped to smell the roses!

PINK Saturday, Episode Eleven~

Have you ever been searching eBay and stumbled across something you weren't looking for? And it's something really cool that you hope no one else will see because it must have been listed funny? Well, this is one of those special things.

It's a vintage bedding set from the 20's or 30's. Gorgeous shades of salmon pink taffeta and robin's egg blue satin. Embroidered with CHENILLE y'all! Variegated chenille!! Amazing applique work done with metallic thread. Just absolutely phenomenal. I'm in complete awe at the handwork on this piece.

And yet, it is QUITE frou-frou. And I believe it is a twin size. I certainly did not need this set. It doesn't even fit my bed! But I just kept thinking that what if it went for a really low price and I didn't even try for it? So, I put in a bid of $40.00. Much to my surprise, I got it for $35!!! I'm still shocked, and this was months ago! And when I received this wonderful work of art in the mail, it was even more beautiful than I thought~ photos don't do it justice. If I were to sell this today, I would not let it go for under $300. I wish I had a guest room with a twin bed!

Here's that headboard that I showed you in my last post! I had Kevin raise it about 15 inches so the pillows wouldn't cover up the detail.

Please note this is not how my room usually looks, and the drapes are not how I want them. Just playing here... plus I don't have a steamer *yet* and I'm not touching this set with an iron!

The pink taffeta shams are vintage from the 50's. The blue floral sheet set is Laura Ashley. I got a great deal on these goodies as well. Check out that chenille folks! Click to enlarge and see the fine metallic threaded appliques. Le Gasp! (Hmm... for some reason this isn't clicking, but the pillow one below works!)

Beautiful pleating on top of the pillow~

Can you imagine being the lucky girl who got to crawl under this each night? The set also includes two dresser scarves, two mini scarves, and a heart shaped pillow. I'm assuming the mini scarves went with one of the dresser scarves for a vanity with different levels, or perhaps a chair.

Here's the underside, lined with cotton.

Let's look to the right~ I bought this dresser years ago from my girlfriend for $15. Gee, how I love these drapes. I wish I could find more. They are from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Clearanced out, I had to run to two diffrent stores just to buy what they had. So if anyone sees any, please let me know! They're Shauna Velvet; Blue, or blu.

The cherub lamps are very special. The one on the left side of the bed was my Grandma Bertha's. I have always loved it. One day I was out yard saling, was doing a drive by on one that didn't look so hot~ when suddenly I spotted this lamp sitting in the middle of their driveway! I think I paid 50 cents for it! It didn't have a shade, and later another girlfriend gave me a lamp that had a shade that matched my other cherub lamp! WOOHOO!
I made the picther and bowl in ceramics.
The lipstick holder was a secret Santa gift, and the perfume bottles inside were my Grandma Goldie's. Silver brush from ebay, $15!

Jewelry from Grandma Goldie, beside carafe from an auction.

Now on to the left side! My parents got me this vanity when I was about 13.

$25 chair from antique store.

Photo of Nova from his 2nd birthday. A few of my vintage hair combs... a chocolate box from my girlfriend Zsa Zsa, (Linda)

The comb with ivory flowers was my headpiece I made for my wedding day.

We found the glass bottle in the house~

Colonial scene handbag that I LOVE, I carried this for quite a while and had miniature pink tassles hanging from the strap. On top of it is a vintage hairbow from Grandma Goldie, and net lace gloves. The candle is "happy moments" from PartyLite.  The fur collar is from my friend who made my wedding dress!

I tried to get a pic of my glittery walls!

I don't have to have a twin bed, I can just do this!
If the bed looks crooked, that's because it is. Our floors are SO uneven, that I have two risers on the right side and one of the left. Which still makes the right side slightly higher. We'll have to rig up something special...If I take away one on the right there's a huge difference.

Here you see my favorite sheets. I made the bedskirt out of them, but could never settle on what to make from the rest. I bought this other fabric years ago. What to do, what to do. The coverlet is Loire matelasse from JC Penny. I love the bouquets and scrolls on it. Beware, it shrinks. Long story. Here's a closeup of the coverlet. On top is a duvet cover from Ralph Lauren. I got it on ebay for $15. It's chambrey on the reverse.
La Boudoir must haves; a vintage pink slip, vintage robin's egg blue trained peignoir from the 30's, and blush colored bedroom slippers!
I hope you've enjoyed my long winded PINK post! Please visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for more precious PINK!
