Butterick 4790, only.... Not!!

Ok everyone... I've been dying to get this finished so I could show you, I'm SOOO excited and I think you all will be too!:D

Lookie what I found! And how easy it will be for all of you to adapt your 4790 dress patterns to make yourselve's one! :p
It's nice to just see another option for the neckline and some sort of sleeve!!
All the fun of the 4790, but with only about 2 yards of fabric and less time!

I had some scrap gingham laying around, and *barely* got the pieces cut out, in fact~ I had to piece a section together but it's in the back wrap part so you can't see.
By the way, I could not for the life of me judge the right/wrong side of this fabric!

The pattern is a 32 bust and I'm a 36. I don't know how to up-size patterns, this is only the second garment I've ever made from a pattern, the first being the actual 4790.... (you can see that here)

So, I decided I would just cut the pattern a half inch larger all around, and could always take it in.
It also stated no hem allowances and I wasn't sure what that meant!
Anyhoo, I wish I had just cut it out as it was, I think it would've fit just fine. I have to tie it pretty tight to fit me. I'm going to sew it together under the arms like I did the dress.

This blouse cost me less than $5 all together, I found the eyelet at a thrift store and had to buy two packs of bias tape.

And here's the finished product~

I love it and it looks mavelous on you! You did the correct thing in adding on the 1/2 inch all the way around...from what I remember from my tailoring class. I love sewing with gingham...it's been a long time. Yvonne

So cute!! The fit looks great. I have that pattern. I'm going to pull it out of my stash and add it to the "to make soonish" pile! This site gives some basic info about resizing patterns: http://sensibility.com/tips/how-to-resize-a-pattern/

Very cute! It looks nice on you. I love how styles cycle. I made a top very similar to that in the late 70's. It was a tie-on just like yours!

Great job on the sewing!

Hey Nikki!
You did such a great job on this! Congratulations... It's precious on you! I will tell you honey, I have never sewn anything from a pattern yet...I am not really sure how to...(all of the sewing I've done is just from my own pattern that I cut out). I've picked up a few patterns for aprons, but I'm not that great with following the directions they give...lol... I just don't get the sewing lingo in the directions. I'm hoping that one of my aunts, who sews can someday show me how to use a pattern...they live in another state though, so it may be a while. You did great using your pattern...one day maybe I'll get it figured out and can make an apron. :)

Hope you have a great day sweetie!

Queenie

Very cute! Hard to believe this only your second pattern!

Loving the music. 'Baked a Cake' is my all time favorite song from childhood. I'll be singing it all day now.

OMGosh! I know my mom made this back in the day....she wore such thing 'round the farm. I just wanted to touch base, I've been sick the past two months fightin' the shingles....golly gee I'm still gettin' new ones! I've been ordered to do nothing and heal up.....I sooo don't do that well and I miss ya'll.

God bless and have a beautifully blessed day!
