PINK Saturday, Episode Seven!

Hello and welcome to PINK Saturday!

Your host is Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. To enjoy more pink, visit her blog for a list of participants~

Some of you showed some interest in dolls, so I decided today I'd share a few of my Scarletts. These are both vinyl dolls from the Franklin Mint. They are about 15 inches tall. They can wear most of Gene's clothes, and the Tonner doll clothes as well... give or take! I think I have 4 of these Scarletts all together, and most of her entire wardrobe from the film.

First is an outfit I had custom made. Here is a sketch by Walter Plunkett who designed the costumes on Gone With the Wind. This particular costume was not chosen for the film but I have always loved it. I found the fabric for the skirt in the dollar bin at Walmart! Sent it off to Alana of Doll Fashions by Alana. She does many custom creations. She's done a handfull for me, gowns that Franklin Mint did not manufacture. (Le GASP! I just visited her site and saw her ensemble for Belle. ME LIKEY!!)

I had this outfit made 5 years ago. Now Tonner Dolls has come out with a Gone With the Wind line, and did a version of this sketch as well. Naturally, they were able to produce special fabric for the skirt and such, but I'm still pleased with my find! In fact, I still like my version better... Not to mention I think the Franklin Mint Scarlett has a prettier face. I just wish the FM dolls were articulated like the Tonners. (Their Melanie is very pretty tho... the prettiest Melly I've yet to see in any line. Take a look Val!)

Here's the Tonner ensemble on their Scarlett~

I will probably get the Tonner Scarlett someday. No doll $$$ at the moment! :*(

Here is another FM Scarlett of mine wearing the poor calico dress. This dress was made by a member of my group, Scarlett O'Hara Vinyl Portrait. Franklin Mint did not offer this dress at the time, but have since come out with it.
I made the little pitcher in ceramics... I think it's so cute! Gotta pour water while talking to Frank Kennedy you know!
I love this dress in all of it's many stages. The original dress was more of a lilac shade, tho on film it has always looked mauve to me.

I read there were about 35 versions of this frock made for the movie. I cannot beleive that only the bodice of one has surfaced....It's a shame how many Hollywood costumes wound up on the floor or thrown out.

I LOVE the look on her face here~

In the spring and summer of 1940, Sears put out a line of GWTW fabrics. This particular calico was one of them.... oh, what I'd give for some of that material today!! And it was only 55 cents a yard then! I have this catalogue and it's one of my most prized GWTW items, very rare and collectable. Not to mention I love looking at the fashions from the era!

I want to make this dress for myself some day. This is the closest fabric I could find~ I've had it forever. I did come across another one that looked great but when I went back to the site it was gone.
My GWTW partner in crime, Dee of Scarlettonline, has had many costumes custom made for her. Here are her two calicos... one nursing version, and one after the war. Just beautiful! The seamstress really did a tremendous job of aging the fabric. If you get a chance, check out the other reproductions at that site. GWTW4Ever is a phenomenal seamstress.

Great post. Love the dresses and fabric. I put pillow rollers in my hair last night.I've only taken down my fringe for now as the rest is still damp but my how very curly that fringe is! lol
Can't wait to see the rest. Thanks for all the feminine looks on your blog on instructions on how to achieve them.

Ooh girl, your dolls are beautiful, but I have to admit any kind of doll kind of freaks me out. Something about those staring, non-moving eyes. EEk! Gives me the heebie jeebies!

Happy Pink Saturday, Nikki.

Great post. I loved seeing dolls, and reading the information about GWTW.

I have the Madame Alexander Scarlett, Rhett and Melanie from the 1980s, and my mother has some of the other characters. She used to collect character dolls. I believe we will be selling our dolls in the future. I don't believe my only child son will be interested in them. ;-)

These are awesome! I have always loved porcelain dolls, though my daughter is the one who gets them. These are really incredible! I love all the GWTW outfits on them, and I like the outfit you had created better than the one that the doll company came out with. Fun Pink post!
